The last stage on Saturday was the shortest from all of the
stages - only 25km. It started at 9.00AM. The weather got
better and so the competitors could enjoy their last kilometers
of Sedivackuv Long 2009.
Big and small battles for the best place in the result list
and battles with overcoming own tiredness had been fought.
The rest of afternoon was filled with preparation for the
evening ceremony, departure home. The helpers and organizators
were cleaning and putting away trail markers, equipment and
technical appliance.
The closing ceremony was under the lead of the main sponsor
of feeding fa.Profilum.
The competitors were given the prices and congratulations
from the hands of the town representatives and sponsors. The
ceremony started traditionally at 6.00PM.
The result list in pdf format: Výsledky
- Results.
All, who took a part in the race, wanted to express big thank
you to all the managing team, organization and helpers who
stand and help at the checkpoints on the trail. They collected
money among themselves and donated it as their appreciation
for their work. The money will be spent at the regular summer
helpers´ meeting before the next 14th year of Sedivackuv Long.
Thank you all who give their helping hands every year!
Most of the mushers, helpers and organizators together with
the director of the race stayed for the evening good bye party.
They discussed used tactics and gained experience, healed
injuries and disappointment, paid out bets and close new ones,
agreed on promising sponsorship, offered and accepted invitations
to other competitions, rides, trips, visits and journeys to
the far north
but mostly they.........CELEBRATED.
23.1.2009

In spite of the gale warning from the meteorologists Friday´s
stage started with the sunshine and the first dogsled set
on the way at 10AM. Mushers enjoyed the sunshine mostly when
climbing up to the famous part called "Bunkers trail".
Immediatelly after descend through "Tobogan" and
another climb up to Masaryk´s challet the strong gale about
130km/h made the route very difficult for both the dogs and
the mushers. Icy specks of snow were sharply and unpleasantly
hitting into everyone´s eyes and perfectly proved ability
of the leading dogs in the dogsled. In case of not good psychical
balance and resistance this dog cannot keep going against
the wind on snow flurried trail. Eventhough some dogs suffered
from such a disbalance their masters did not have biggers
problems and all of them came safely back to the finish. Mushers
and their dog teams will go to the last final 25km stage tomorrow.

Everyone who set off the 45 and 65 km trails
was very surprised today by the magnificent and fantastic
weather that was on the top of the mountains opposed to the
dark, dump and smoggy weather down in the valley. The wonderful
and spectaculous weather was prepared by the king of the mountains
Rampusak and it has been ordered by the director of the race
Pavel Kucera. To climb up the hill was today definitelly worth
doing because when one climbed out of the fog, the lovely
weather waited for them by Masaryk´s challet and on the ridge.
See the enclosed pictures:

The first mushers came back to the finish
shortly after 13:15 while the slowlest arrived after th e
dark. Both the dogs and their owners have absolutely enjoyed
the magnificent moments on the tops and it did not matter
whether it was a dogsled, mushers, skijoring or the loveliest
discipline of the far north - pulka.

Everyone came back without any injuries, however
there were a lot of fast descents and dangerously looking
downfalls. See photos:

21.1.2009
The realistic and also traditional feast of all the mushers
started this morning. The main race of Sedivackuv long 2009
started with its first stage for 70km out of the total
distance 222km.
Before the main 'peloton' group there started our evening
riders with their 'Iron Lady' who set off for 90km today.

90 enthusiastic mushers, whose sport became their way of
life, set off the main starting point in the rainy weather.
Together with their dog friends and inspite of the weather
they enjoyed their daily load of kilometres. It was dump, wet
and foggy, which made it demanding task not only for outdoor
equipment and shoes but also for dogs and their owners. The
trail today had to lead to the Polish side to our northern
neighbours to fulfill its length. According to the weather the
trail was prepared as well as and as much as possible on both
the sides of the border.

Today´s foggy and rainy trail will for sure create a long
time discussion topic and stories for a lot of not only
evening dialogues. Among many stories belongs the one from
Jiri Vondrak that happened on the Polish side. His whose
dogsled almost had a collision with deers, one crossed the
trail 5m in front of them and other was following it.
However, the dogsled crossed their track and it decided to jump
over the two rows of pulling dogs. It must have been a
shocking moment for both of them. Another story comes
from Zdenka Huskova who stood face to face to 6wild boars.
A lot of those who came to start in the morning took their
time and enjoyed the trail till the last moment, some of them
arriving after 9PM.

20.1.2009 evening
Today the race started with its first night stage and five
the brave, two from Germany and three from the Czech Republic.
One of the men was a lady with big 'L' - the Iron Lady with
her official name Jana Hola. She is also trying to get the ICE
DOG titul. All of the mushers from this five came back before
midnight.

20.1.2009
Kristýna lives its pre-race life. The last
of mushers are arriving after their long way from distant
homes. There comes the neverending circle of activities -
feeding, walking and preparing for today´s start of the race.
The vet MvDr. Petr Hrabak and his helpers have loads of work
to do veterinary checkup at all the dogs.
Today at 12h there will be the first
big meeting of helpers, the checkpoints and rules will be set
for the evening stage that starts along with the official
ceremony at 6PM.

Šediváčkův long 2009
The stage dogsled race SEDIVACKUV
LONG, one of the longest, the hardest but also the most famous
race for the most parts of Europe will take place in Destne
for the 13th time. It is a favourite race regarded to the
numbers; since the first year in 1997 till the last year 2008
when it had to face the worst snow conditions in the warmest
winter time for the last 200 years, there had come the dogsleds
from eleven European countries.
The length of the race is
also remarkable - the competitors and their dogs run 222km
on the ridges of the Orlicke mountains both on the Czech and
the Polish sides in four stages. The most experienced racers
can apply to the prestige race where they run 333km in five
stages including one night stage. All the dogsleds carry the
compulsory equipment and load and there is also one compulsory
bivouac in between the two daytime stages.
Since 2002 SEDIVACKUV LONG
has been a part of the four extreme dogsled races for the
award of the IRON SLED DOG MAN. The other three races take
part in the Austrian and the Swiss Alps. The race has been
run for many years also as the Czech Championship in LONG
and in 2004 it was also the Czech Championship in MID (the
middle length trail)
This type of race is not demanding
only for the competitors and their dogs. It is complicated
also from the matter of planning, financing, preparation,
propagation, organization and the race itself. Everything
depends very much on the weather and snow conditions.
The suitable place of the
Orlicke mountains proved to be welcoming for the organizing
and managing the outter influences and there has always been
chosen a right time, place and also the quality of all the
cooperating people taking part in the race.
There has been a good cooperation
with Destne in the Orlicke Mountains, with the owners of forests,
with the Nature Protected Reserve Orlicke Mountains, with
the managers of the accomodation pensions in Jedlova and in
the last years also with the Polish partners - the Polish
Musher club Amarok, with the village Dusniki-Zdoj and with
the custom officers on the borders where the mushers go across
a couple times during the race.
There is a very good cooperation
with many proved sponsors. Thanks to the experienced photographers
and cameramen ŠEDIVÁCKUV LONG provides daily information for
the media partners, the broadcast and TV. Every year they
broadcast new information and spots and they make an audiovisual
documentary.
You can follow the preparation
info and the race info on the www.czechlongtrail.com.
But we believe that the personal experience of the place cannot
be replaced!!
Even when we have so many
partners it would never be possible to organize and manage
ŠEDIVÁCKUV LONG without the helpers and volunteers who give
into very much of their private time to make the race go smoothly.
A lot of competitors of SEDIVACKUV
LONG who keep coming back every year confirm their well done
job.
It is a place where start
many strong friendships that overcome the borders, language
barriers and time.
Thank you for help and the
cooperation to all who support us!
Due
two last winters everybody must organise accommodation itself
this year!!! We are not able to garantee full capacity to
pensions and hotels us in last years.
It is
very important for all of us to get a new sponsors. Please
remember: no sponsors= no race!!! If you can help us, you
are very welcome!!!
WE OFFER TO THE SPONSORS:
- We place your company's
logo and information on our websites and at the start-finish
