26.1.2008
Today´s last stage started
from Kristyna as in the previous days only earlier at 9.00AM.
We can say that mushers sort of got used to the "grassy"
start and found out that it is possible even without the snow.
There are still many of those brave ones who ride fast back
down to the stake out. The ones who did not feel brave enough
for such an extreme adventure could have their sled and dogs
driven back down by the cars. The weather at the mountain
ridges was completely as in the other world. It was foggy,
cold blusts of wind, just typical cold winter as we wish for.
Out of the 69 mushers 32 finished
the whole race. The total distance was in the end 192km (
58+58+34+42). The fastest mushers in total are:
1.Schumacher Wolfram- DE( 7AH)
13:26:31
2. Henychová Jana - CZ ( 10SH)
14:01:00
3. Goltz Jan - DE ( 10AH) 14:37:57
4. Potoček Juraj- SK (10 AH,SH)
15:40:38
5. Novotný Roman- CZ ( 4SH)
16:05:54
6. Petružalka Milan- CZ (8SH)
16:06:44
The next Sedivackuv long XIII.
will take place in 2009 in the week from 17.1. to 24.1. We
hope for better weather and little more snow.
We would like to thank to
all who took part in the race. To all the mushers, sponsors,
dog handlers, helpers and personnel of the Kristyna pension.
Thank you to everyonel who supports this demanding event.

On 25th evening were given
prices Iron Sled Dog Man for year 2006 a 2007 from main organizator
of this cup Walter Treichel.

The race started today again
at 10.00AM from Kristyna. There came the magic and the snow
fell at night. It was only 11mm in the valley and 4cm on the
tops. The snow covered the open grassy and stony places specially
the corridor from Marusa to Velka Destna.
After the morning clouds the
sun came out and made really good conditions for both the
mushers and their dogs. Mushers considered today´s trail to
be the best and the most relaxing so far.
The trail was 34 km long and
there was only one ridge loop.

day: here
24.1.2008
The starts took place today
same as yesterday from 10.00AM from Kristyna. The trail was
also the same 57km with two loops on the mountain ridge. It
got a bit warmer - above zero and the snow more melted. On
the steep meadows from Matous to Luisino valley there was
more mud than snow. The folloing program of the race for the
next days depends very much on the weather development and
current snow conditions. At the moment the temperature outside
is below zero and the weather forecast promises a bit of snowing
at night. We will see in the morning how things are. The mood
of mushers is still very good and we haven´t noticed any lynching
and torturing of the organizators....

On 23rd evening there was
a very interesting presentation and slide show of Mr. Honza
Kopka - the extreme cyclist. Last year he took a part in the
most extreme bike race of the planet in the Alaskan Iditarod.
This is the bike, ski and on foot race on the trail of the
famous dog-sledding race. See :
http://www.ivelo.cz/Iditarod-Trail-Invitational-2007/
http://www.jankopka.cz/kniha_2.htm
The starts took place today
from 10.00AM. The way of the race was changed in the opposite
direction that means from Kristyna accomodation up on the
grassy ski slope to church of Matous and followingly to Luisino
valley and then to the mountain ridges. As you can see in
the photos the weather up on the top was excellent. I took
some photos but only where it was possible. Otherwise it was
a ride for rather brave ones. The ride back down to Jedlova
on the "grassy lawn" of the ski slope was an extreme
experience.
Today´s trail was 57km long.
The ridge loop was done twice.

SEDIVACKUV
LONG 2008
JANUARY 22-26th 2008 - Destne in the Orlicke mountains
The stage dogsled race SEDIVACKUV
LONG, one of the longest, the hardest but also the most famous
race for the most parts of Europe will take place in Destne
for the twelfth time. It is a favourite race regarded to the
numbers; since the first year in 1997 till the last year 2007
when it had to face the worst snow conditions in the warmest
winter time for the last 200 years, there had come the dogsleds
from eleven European countries.
The length of the race is
also remarkable - the competitors and their dogs run 222km
on the ridges of the Orlicke mountains both on the Czech and
the Polish sides in four stages. The most experienced racers
can apply to the prestige race where they run 333km in five
stages including one night stage. All the dogsleds carry the
compulsory equipment and load and there is also one compulsory
bivouac in between the two daytime stages.
Since 2002 SEDIVACKUV LONG
has been a part of the four extreme dogsled races for the
award of the IRON SLED DOG MAN. The other three races take
part in the Austrian and the Swiss Alps. The race has been
run for many years also as the Czech Championship in LONG
and in 2004 it was also the Czech Championship in MID (the
middle length trail)
This type of race is not demanding
only for the competitors and their dogs. It is complicated
also from the matter of planning, financing, preparation,
propagation, organization and the race itself. Everything
depends very much on the weather and snow conditions.
The suitable place of the
Orlicke mountains proved to be welcoming for the organizing
and managing the outter influences and there has always been
chosen a right time, place and also the quality of all the
cooperating people taking part in the race.
There has been a good cooperation
with Destne in the Orlicke Mountains, with the owners of forests,
with the Nature Protected Reserve Orlicke Mountains, with
the managers of the accomodation pensions in Jedlova and in
the last years also with the Polish partners - the Polish
Musher club Amarok, with the village Dusniki-Zdoj and with
the custom officers on the borders where the mushers go across
a couple times during the race.
There is a very good cooperation
with many proved sponsors. Thanks to the experienced photographers
and cameramen ŠEDIVÁCKUV LONG provides daily information for
the media partners, the broadcast and TV. Every year they
broadcast new information and spots and they make an audiovisual
documentary.
You can follow the preparation
info and the race info on the www.czechlongtrail.com.
But we believe that the personal experience of the place cannot
be replaced!!
Even when we have so many
partners it would never be possible to organize and manage
ŠEDIVÁCKUV LONG without the helpers and volunteers who give
into very much of their private time to make the race go smoothly.
A lot of competitors of SEDIVACKUV
LONG who keep coming back every year confirm their well done
job.
It is a place where start
many strong friendships that overcome the borders, language
barriers and time.
Thank you for help and the
cooperation to all who support us!
